Topics for January 16th & 17th

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has announced state of emergency measures based on the Act on Special Measures for Pandemic Influenza and New Infections Diseases Preparedness and Response.

The entire Tokyo Metropolitan area is now under a state of emergency until Sunday, February 7th.

In order to prevent the spread of infection, it is necessary to reduce the movement of people.

Residents of Tokyo are asked to refrain from non-essential outings, day or night.

In addition, please take basic measures against infectious diseases, such as wearing masks, washing hands frequently, and avoiding the "Three Cs": closed, poorly ventilated spaces, crowded places and close contact with others.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has opened the "Tokyo Coronavirus Support Center for Foreign Residents” to respond to various consultations from non-native speakers of Japanese and other foreign residents, who are experiencing anxiety associated with novel coronavirus infection and its impact on their daily lives.

The service is available in 14 languages: English, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Nepalese, Indonesian, Tagalog, Thai, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Cambodian, Burmese and easy Japanese.

The center is open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s closed on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays.

For inquiries, please call the toll-free number 0120-296-004.
