The World Press Photo 2019 exhibition is now taking place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Ebisu. This traveling exhibition, presented in over 100 venues around the world, features a collection of award-winning images from the World Press Photo Contest, judged annually in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This year, a total of 4,738 photographers from 129 countries and regions entered more than 78,000 photos for consideration. This show displays the 43 shots that were selected as winners in the contest. This is a great chance to see all the photo works, each telling a story and showing what's actually happening in the world today. The World Press Photo exhibition runs through Sunday, August 4th, at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. The museum is closed on Mondays, but it will remain open on July 15th, and closed the next day. General admission is 800 yen. To get there, take the JR Line to Ebisu station. Next, we’re going to introduce an event showcasing the attractions of Japanese traditional crafts. “Tokyo Teshigoto" is a project that aims to re-create Tokyo's traditional crafts in a modern way, and to share the attractions with people in Japan and around the world. A development team has been formed by traditional craft companies and designers, to come up with products with excellent quality and designability that would be respected by the world. Recently, 11 newly developed products from 2018 were unveiled for the first time, with remarkable works awarded Tokyo Governor's Award. "Tokyo Teshigoto Exhibition" is currently being held on the 5th floor of Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi Main Building, displaying and selling such award winning works and other collaboration products by artisans and designers. It also introduces the creative ideas and techniques of craftsmen, through hands-on demonstrations. The event is held through June 27th, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free. The venue is a minute walk from Tokyo Metro’s Mitsukoshimae Station.
