Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City

This week's edition is on “Yokohama City Fire Department's New Year's Performance 2023”.

In Japan, when the new year starts, a "New Year's Performance" is carried out by fire service related personnel.

In Yokohama City too, the Yokohama City Fire Department's New Year's Performance 2023, held to make citizens feel safe and secure and to raise awareness of disaster prevention and mitigation, will take place for the first time in three years. It will be held on Sunday 8th January in the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse area. 

As well as traditional Japanese firefighting performances such as ladder climbing and dynamic firefighting drills, there will also be sales of Yokohama Fire Department original goods, and food trucks will be there too!. 

The stage events will be as follows…

Part 1 (11am-approx. 12:15pm)

Opening Ceremony

Old style firefighting performance, featuring matoi waving and ladder climbing 

Firefighters Band Drill Performance

General Firefighting Drill

Simultaneous Water Spraying

Part 2 (1pm-2:30pm)

Aerial Rescue Drill

Introduction to firefighting vehicles and activities

The Yokohama Anpanman Children’s Museum’s New Year Concert

The date and time of the Yokohama City Fire Department's New Year's Performance 2023 will be Sunday 8th January, 10am - 3pm. (The performance will take place as planned in the event of light rain)

The venues will be the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Events Square, Red Brick Park, and Yokohama Disaster Risk Reduction Learning Center (satellite venue).
