Marie Antoinette Style Exhibition

PSA Yokohama
2026/08/26

Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City

26th August 2026

This week’s edition is on the Marie Antoinette Style Exhibition, being held at the Yokohama Museum of Art.

Marie Antoinette is recognised as the most fashionable queen in history. The queen’s attire and the interior furnishings of her palace quarters, which made her a “fashion icon” of her time, have had a widespread influence on fashion, design, and film from the 18th century to the present day.

This exhibition is based on the content of a global touring exhibition organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, but features a unique Japanese curation that includes works on display exclusively at the Japanese venue, as well as domestic works.

As the first stop on the international tour and the only venue in Japan to host the exhibition, this event showcases approximately 200 items, including many being shown in Japan for the first time, ranging from portraits of the Queen, jewellery formerly owned by her and period court dresses to works by contemporary creators.

It delves into the innovative spirit and personality of the Queen, who established a new style in every aspect, and unravels the "Antoinette style" that continues to captivate people across generations.

To coincide with the exhibition, a pop-up shop will be selling original goods featuring motifs from the exhibited works, as well as a range of collaborative merchandise.

Other events that can be enjoyed alongside the exhibition will also be held, so please make sure you check the exhibition's official website and social media accounts.

The exhibition will run until 23rd November.
