Beware of Norovirus / Applications for Hokago Pupils' Clubs

Minato Voice
2020/01/13

Infectious diseases and food poisoning caused by norovirus are prevalent in winter.

You can get Norovirus through eating undercooked bivalve shellfish, or through person to person transmission, which can happen when a infected person's feces or vomit comes into contact with your mouth.

Once infected, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, and fever will appear around 24-48 hours after infection.

Norovirus only multiplies within the human body, so it is important not to let it into your body.

Preventative measures you can take in your daily life are as follows.

When eating bivalve shellfish, cook them through to the center. Wash and sterilize the cooking utensils used.

Wash your hands thoroughly in the correct way to wash off Norovirus.

Norovirus stops being infectious when heated or when it comes into contact with chlorine bleach. Disinfecting with chlorine bleach is highly effective. However, please take proper care when using it.

For more information, please contact the Life Hygiene Section at Minato Public Health Center.
