Infectious diseases and food poisoning caused by norovirus are prevalent in winter.

You can get Norovirus through eating undercooked shellfish such as oysters, or coming into contact with an infected person's vomit or feces.

Once infected, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, and fever will appear after around 24-48 hours.

Norovirus only multiplies within the human body, so it is important not to let it into your body.

Preventative measures you can take in your daily life are as follows.

When eating shellfish such as oysters, cook them through to the center.

Thoroughly wash and sterilize any cooking utensils used.

Wash your hands thoroughly.

When using alcohol based sanitizers alone, there is the danger of norovirus remaining on your hands and fingers.

Please make sure you wash your hands properly to wash away norovirus.

The section in charge at Minato Public Health Center is the Life Hygiene Section.
