Use of Minato City Libraries / The Emergency Childcare Project targeted at Minato City’s Elementary School Children

Minato Voice
2020/03/23

Minato City libraries lend out books, CDs, and DVDs. They also host events such as story hours and movie hours.

Opening hours are from 9am to 8pm Monday-Saturday, and from 9am to 5pm on Sundays, national holidays and 28th December.

Opening hours at Takanawa Library Annex are from 9:30am-8pm every day, except national holidays when it is closed.

In order to borrow books, CDs and DVDs, user registration is required. Anyone who lives, works, or studies in one of Tokyo’s 23 wards can register.

When doing so, you should take ID such as your driving license, health insurance card, worker or student ID, or resident card.

For details, see the Minato City Libraries homepage, the March edition of Minato Monthly, or the Minato City website.

The subsection in charge at Minato City Hall is the General Affairs Subsection of the Library and Cultural Assets Section.

All kindergartens and elementary and junior high schools have been temporarily closed since Monday 2nd March until the spring holidays. Ceremonies to mark the start of the new academic year will take place on Tuesday 7th April at kindergartens and on Monday 6th April at elementary and junior high schools.

Minato City pupils’ clubs are in operation, but there are some children who are not registered with the pupils’ clubs, who cannot stay at home because their parents work. For this reason, the city is providing an emergency childcare service.

Those eligible are elementary school children who are enrolled in Minato municipal elementary schools or who live in Minato City.

The service is available until Tuesday 31st March, and use of the service is free.

To apply, please submit the participation registration form to any emergency childcare service operator. The participation registration form can be downloaded from the Minato City website.

The website also provides details on the emergency childcare project.

Here are a list of contacts for enquiries related to the closures.

For enquiries about the emergency childcare project, contact emergency childcare service operators.

For childrearing support in the form of kindergarten childcare, call the School Affairs Section at Minato City Hall. The telephone number is 03-3578-2779.

For pupils’ club related enquiries, please contact the appropriate pupils’ club directly.
