On 15th August 1985, Minato City issued the Declaration as a City of Peace, calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons and permanent world peace.

Based on this Declaration, Minato City is engaged in various activities towards the realization of world peace. 

As a part of these activities, in April 2010 the city joined “Mayors for Peace,” a global coalition of cities that seeks the abolition of nuclear weapons.

Together with other cities around the world that are working towards the realization of world peace, Minato City will continue to send out a message about the importance and preciousness of peace.

The subsection in charge at Minato City Hall is the Human Rights and Gender Equality Subsection of the General Affairs Section.

Minato City has the Minato Tobacco Rule in place to promote environmental beautification in public places and prevent passive smoking in order to realize a comfortable living environment.

It should be adhered to by everyone, including people who live or work in Minato City, as well as those who visit.

Please follow these three rules in all areas of Minato City, such as on roads and in parks, children’s amusement parks and public open spaces.

1) Do not throw cigarette butts on the street.

2) Do not smoke in public places other than designated smoking areas.

3) Even if you are smoking in a privately owned location, make sure your cigarette smoke is not being inhaled by people in public spaces.

By having smokers follow these manners, Minato City aims to create an environment where smokers and non smokers alike can live comfortably.
