16th November - 15th December is ‘Tokyo HIV Prevention Month’, and 1st December is ‘World AIDS Day’.

The onset of AIDS occurs when the immune system is compromised due to HIV infection.

If HIV is left untreated, it will typically progress to AIDS within a few years to a dozen or so years.

AIDS medications have progressed to the point where they can suppress the onset of the disease, allowing you to live a normal life, if you start the appropriate treatment early.

Getting tested leads to early detection and onset prevention.

It is also important to know if you are HIV positive in order to prevent transmitting the virus to other people.

Anonymous testing is available free of charge at medical institutions in Minato City, so why not take this opportunity to get tested.

For details, please see the Minato City website.

The subsection in charge at Minato Public Health Center is the Public Health and Disease Prevention Subsection of the Public Health and Disease Prevention Section.
