How to Avoid Congestion at Ward Office Counters

PSA Yokohama
2026/02/18

Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City

18th March 2026

This week's edition is on useful information for making ward office procedures easier.

Every year, during moving season from mid-March to early April, ward office Family Registry Section counters get very busy.

There can be a wait of several hours, particularly on Mondays, and the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month.

However, there are procedures that can be carried out without going to crowded ward offices.

The first is submitting a "Notification of Moving Out" when moving out of Yokohama City. If you have a My Number card, you can complete the moving out procedure online. If you don't have a My Number card, you can complete the procedure by post.

For online procedures, you can complete the moving out process via the MynaPortal website

For postal submissions, please enclose the following items and post them to the Family Registry Section of the ward office where you currently live:

① A document called "Notification of Moving Out by post"

② A “copy of your Resident Card or Special Permanent Resident Certificate”

③ A “stamped reply envelope”

For more information, please see the Yokohama City website.

Next are certificates, such as resident certificates and seal registration certificates.

You can obtain these from your local convenience store using your My Number Card. The process is simple, it’s 50 yen cheaper than at ward office counters, and there is no waiting time. It is also very convenient as you can use it even when the ward office is closed.

During the spring moving season, make good use of online procedures and convenience store issuance to ensure a smooth start to your new life.
