This week's edition is on Sankeien’s moon-viewing event.

Sankeien is a Japanese garden located in Yokohama's Honmoku. It was created in the early 1900s by Sankei Hara, a businessman who made his fortune in the manufacturing and export of silk. This year marks the 120th anniversary of its opening.

Inside the extensive garden, there are 17 historical buildings, gathered from places such as Kyoto and Kamakura. Visitors can enjoy seeing how they blend in seamlessly with the natural scenery.

For five days from Friday 25th - Tuesday 29th September, Sankeien will extend its opening hours until 8:30pm to hold a Moon Viewing event, a traditional Japanese event for enjoying the moon.

During this period, visitors will be able to admire the illuminated historic buildings whilst strolling through the garden.  For just the admission fee, visitors will also be able to enjoy performances of traditional Japanese music and dance, such as ‘Satsuma biwa’ (lute), ‘Gagaku’ and ‘Sokyoku (Koto music)’, as well as ‘early Western music featuring harp and percussion’, and ‘saxophone and piano’ performances. The program will change daily, but all performances will be held in Rinshunkaku, a building dating back around 400 years to the Edo period.

On autumn evenings, when the heat eases, forget about your daily routine and enjoy a moment in this atmospheric setting.
