This week’s edition is on an event commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Yokohama Meister Program.

The Yokohama Meister Program, which selects master craftspeople possessing exceptional skills and showcases their valuable expertise, is celebrating 30 years since its launch in 1996.

To mark the start of this commemorative year, an event showcasing the appeal of handcrafting and handmade products will be held on Wednesday 11th March.

The venue will be the atrium on the first-floor of Yokohama City Hall, located just next to Bashamichi Station on the Minatomirai Line, or JR Sakuragicho Station.

From 11am to 6pm, a panel exhibition will be held featuring photographs taken by a professional photographer that capture previously selected Meisters at work. These images depict moments from various professions, such as beautifully decorating a space with flowers or checking the colours of stained glass, making for a truly fascinating viewing experience!

From 12pm, a talk event will be held with a Meister who makes string instruments, selected for this year's 30th term. The Meister, who has also won an award in the maker's category at the Tchaikovsky International Competition, will talk primarily about the appeal of making instruments.

From 12:30pm to 1pm, there will be a mini-concert featuring a string quartet playing string instruments crafted by the Meister. Musicians including members of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra have also been invited to perform several pieces, including Elgar's "Salut d'Amour".
