Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City
15th July 2026
This week’s edition is on the reopening of ‘Yokohama Noh Theater’.
Yokohama Noh Theatre is a theater that holds performances of classical Japanese performing arts such as Noh and Kyogen. It is located in a corner of Kamonyama Park, which overlooks the Minato Mirai area. The theater had been closed since January 2024 for major renovation work, but reopened on 28th June.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the theater's opening. To commemorate this milestone, a variety of events will be held, including special performances of Noh and Kyogen, as well as Ryukyuan performing arts performances celebrating the reconstruction of Shurijo Castle, a castle that symbolises Okinawa's history and culture.
The “Kyogen program at Yokohama Noh Theater”, a Kyogen performance with easy-to-understand commentary designed for first-time audiences, will also be held, as well as "Kyogen for Kids", which can be enjoyed by children, and the "Accessible Noh Performance", which can be enjoyed by people with and without disabilities.
As part of the recent renovations, tablet holders have been newly installed on the backs of the seats in front.
For the outreach performance, "Fun and Easy Noh Masterpieces", which will take place in December, the provision of English subtitles is also planned.
On days without performances, visitors are free to explore the theater. You can relax and enjoy the quiet space, taking in the Noh stage, viewing the exhibits, and browsing related books.
Please visit Yokohama Noh Theatre and experience the charm of Noh and Kyogen, Japan’s classical performing arts.
The theater is a 12-minute walk from Sakuragichō Station on the JR and Yokohama Municipal Subway lines.
