This week’s edition is on an exhibition being held by the Osaragi Jiro Memorial Museum called ‘100 years since the birth of Kurama Tengu’.


The Osaragi Jiro Memorial Museum stands out for its arched roof and red-brick façade in Yokohama's Harbour View Park. The museum introduces the life and achievements of Yokohama born writer, Jiro Osaragi, through a variety of documents.

The exhibition ‘100 years since the birth of Kurama Tengu’ is being held until Sunday 5th January 2025.


One hundred years ago, Jiro Osaragi published the first tale of the ‘Great Hero Kurama Tengu’, “An Old Woman with a Demoness Mask”.

From then on, he become a popular author and wrote 47 stories in the series.


"Kurama Tengu for Boys" captured the hearts of children, and Kurama Tengu became a hero representing the era. His popularity is evident in the fact that there have been 63 film adaptations.


The exhibition features a variety of materials related to Kurama Tengu, such as manuscripts handwritten by Jiro Osaragi, illustrations and cover art by Pater Sato and others, film posters, and children's toys.


The journey of the author and the character, as well as how the people of the time received Kurama Tengu, are introduced through materials from the museum's collection.


In addition, the museum is hosting a quiz related to places such as Yokohama, Kobe, and Shimonoseki, that were the setting for the final story in the Kurama Tengu series, "The Tale of Hell."
