Citizens’ Reading Activity Promotion Month / Yokohama Libraries

PSA Yokohama
2022/11/23

Public Service Announcement for Yokohama City

23rd Nobember 2022

This week’s edition is on ‘Citizens’ Reading Activity Promotion Month and Yokohama’s Libraries’.

In Japan, autumn brings to mind reading.

November is Citizens’ Reading Activity Promotion Month.

Yokohama City libraries are holding a reading event across all of the libraries called “Autumn is for Reading”.

There is a Yokohama City library in each ward.

10 books per person can be borrowed for free over the 14 days in total that the libraries are open.

Books, magazines and newspapers in languages other than Japanese, and books for those studying Japanese are also available.

If the book you are looking for is unavailable, you can borrow it by getting it sent over from another library,

A variety of events are held every month, such as story time for parents and children to enjoy together, children’s story time and adults’ story time, introductions to valuable materials, and exhibitions based on themes and seasons.

For people who find it difficult to get to the library, the e-book service is recommended.

The e-book service is a service that allows you to borrow and return e-books using a computer, smartphone, or tablet connected to the internet.

You can enjoy reading anytime, anywhere, 24 hours a day.

There are English books, and books for learning Japanese too.

Anyone with a library card can use the e-book service.

At the library, staff are always happy to help you find books or look things up.

Please feel free to approach the consultation counter without wondering, “Is it ok to ask this kind of thing?”.
