For the first Tokyo City Information of 2020, we’re going to bring you information about some fun family events. The Takashimaya Department Store in Shinjuku will be holding the 63rd Tokyo Traditional Crafts Fair to showcase the attractions of handmade crafts that carry the traditions of the past into the present. This annual event features a collection of 45 Japanese traditional crafts produced by Tokyo artisans. You can even see live demonstrations and purchase goods to take home too. Visitors to the fair will also be able to try their own hand at making these items. For a fee, you can take part in a handicraft class offered each day at 11:30, 2:00 and 4:30. This is an event you won’t want to miss and it’s one you can enjoy in your own language, as English and Chinese interpreters will be available on site throughout the exhibition period. The fair runs from January 9th, through 13th. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., except for the 10th and the 11th, when it stays open until 8:30, and the final day, January 13th, when doors close early at 6 p.m. The event takes place at the exhibition space on the 11th floor of Takashimaya Shinjuku store. Admission is free. To get there, take the JR trains to Shinjuku Station. It’s a 2 minute walk from the New South Exit.

今年最初の東京シティーインフォメーションはご家族で楽しめるイベントをご紹介します。東京の伝統工芸品の魅力を紹介する『第63回東京都伝統工芸品展』が新宿高島屋で開催されます。このイベントでは、東京の職人たちが技を活かして作り上げた45品目の伝統工芸品の展示販売や、そのうちのいくつかの工芸品については実演も行います。また、来場者も伝統芸能の技にチャレンジできる有料の製作体験コーナーもあり、時間は11:30、14:00、16:30 の1日3回実施します。他にも、職人に質問しながら工芸品の魅力を紹介するブースツアー、東京の伝統工芸品が当たる抽選会も実施します。会場では英語と中国語に対応可能な通訳がご案内致しますので、外国の方も楽しめるイベントです。会期は、1月9日から13日まで。時間は午前10時から午後8時、ただし、10日と11日は午後8時30分まで、最終日13日は午後6までとなります。会場は新宿高島屋11階の催会場で、入場は無料です。アクセスはJR「新宿駅」新南口改札口から徒歩2分です。

On January 13th, Coming of Age Day, the Shibuya streets will host a show by the Heaven Artist street performers. These artists have passed special auditions held by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and they perform at public and private facilities all around the city to let people enjoy their artistic and cultural talents. At this year’s event, there will be comedy wrestling mach, double dutch performance, magic shows, Chinese acrobat shows, juggling and more. You can see great performances put on by 17 Heaven Artist troupes. This holiday event takes place in front of Shibuya Dogenzaka, Bunkamura-dori and Shibuya Mark City on Monday, January 13th, from 1:00 to 3:40 in the afternoon. The event is free of charge and everyone is welcome.

1月13日の成人の日に、渋谷駅周辺でヘブンアーティストによる大道芸イベントを開催します。ヘブンアーティストとは東京都が実施する審査会に合格したアーティストたちで、公共施設や民間施設といった場所で多くの人たちに芸術文化を楽しんでもらう活動をしています。今年は、コメディプロレス、ダブルダッチ、マジック、中国雑技、ジャグリングなど、17組のヘブンアーティストが入れ替わりで出演します。日時は1月13日の午後1時から午後3時40分で、開催エリアは、渋谷道玄坂、文化村通り、渋谷マークシティです。どなたでも ご自由にご覧いただけますので、ぜひお越しください。
